Blackford County Schools is restructuring its technology operations, slashing its Five Star Technology Solutions contract from roughly $16,000-$17,000 per month to $3,000 per month — a drop from approximately $192,000-$204,000 per year down to $36,000.

The board approved the new three-year contract, running July 1, 2026 through June 30, 2029, by a 4-0 vote. Under the revised deal, Five Star will provide network support only through a team of network engineers, rather than full managed services.

The savings come partly from bringing an on-site technician in-house. Taylor Dylan, who has worked on-site under a Five Star contract for approximately four years, will be hired as a full-time BCS employee effective July 1. Five Star cooperated in the transition, releasing Dylan from her contract and modifying the agreement.

BCS received bids from four other managed service providers. Five Star's $3,000 per month was "by far also the best price," according to the superintendent.
